ABOUT

Workplace Health and Safety
in the Philippines

The principal statute is Republic Act No. 11058, the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Law, with its implementing rules in Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Department Order No. 198-18. The framework is administered by DOLE. Several features matter for any business operating in the Philippines, including BPO and office employers:

Mandatory OSH programme

Every covered workplace must have a written occupational safety and health programme.

Safety officers

Employers must appoint trained safety officers, with the number and level depending on the size and risk of the workplace.

Risk assessment

Employers must identify hazards and assess and control risks.

Worker rights and training

Workers have the right to know the hazards and to mandatory OSH training, and there are requirements for OSH committees in larger workplaces.

Enforcement and penalties

RA 11058 introduced clearer enforcement and administrative penalties for non-compliance.

Arinite supports businesses operating in the Philippines, with particular strength for international and UK groups running BPO, shared-services, and office operations who need RA 11058 compliance aligned with their global standards. We work with locally qualified practitioners.
